SOS: All the products you need to survive the summer heatwave, from cooling pillow inserts to the best desk fans

If you’re anything like me then you’ve been counting down the days for this current heatwave – but now it’s here, you’re finding it hard to literally do anything. It’s so hot. Us Brits tend to always forget just how unbearably sweaty our summers can be and while (don’t get me wrong) I’m grateful for the change in temperature, I am missing the cooler breeze of spring.

The current situation we find ourselves in this summer means that we don’t have to commute on humid tubes and muggy buses as often, but there are plenty of losses while working from home (office air con, I miss you). The gross reality is that many of us – unless you live in one of those ultra mod’ apartments – don’t have air conditioning, we’re instead relying on that one electric fan we’ve owned for millenia and are carrying it about the house as we transition from room to room.

Spraying ourselves with our favourite face mists and slathering on our best face SPFs before purchasing linen bedding and switching to a silk pillowcase is what we spend most of our time doing during summer – not forgetting to refill our water bottles every half an hour, of course.

What’s worse is, come the evening, we’re left waiting for a dramatic drop in temperature that just never occurs. Instead we have to peel ourselves off the sofa and treat our bodies to a nice cold shower before sleeping starkers on top of the duvet. Read: How the hell do we sleep in this heat?!

Fret not, my friends. We have compiled a list of absolute must-haves during this balmy weather that you will pledge your life to instantly. From this wood-effect tower fan from John Lewis and this Brushworks gel eye mask, to this ice maker and cooling blanket from Amazon, we’ve got you well and truly covered in terms of cooling down. You can thank us with a year’s supply of ice lollies.
