This comfy cult sandal has a 14,000 person waiting list, so what’s all the hype about?

Going for a walk has become a national hobby over the past 12 months. We stepped out in chunky boots during winter then swapped to designer trainers for Spring. *Some* of us even took it up a gear in a pair of running trainers. While we love our sneakers and shoes, now Summer is here we’re ready to switch to sandals. So the relaunch of the cult FitFlop Walkstar sandal on June 8th seems perfectly timed.

The Walkstar is an innovative flip-flop style sandal that goes beyond the basic… Developed by entrepreneur Marcia Kilgore (founder of Bliss Spas, Soap & Glory and Beauty Pie) and biomechanists Dr Darren James and Dr Dave Cook, the Walkstar was ergonomically designed to be super-comfy and supportive. FitFlop was one of the first brands to bring wellness into walking but the sandal slipped out of production. But now, with all feet focused on walking, it’s time for a comeback.

So why is it so damn comfy? This is the science bit… The Walkstar is made from three layers of cushioning with anatomical contours that ‘hug’ your feet – but they’re still really light to wear. Microwobbleboard™ technology keeps you stable while the construction ‘propels’ you forward you as you walk, so you swing with each step. FitFlop founder Marcia Kilgore says: “The year we’ve all just been through has cemented for us that health is wealth and comfort is key. Our Walkstar sandals are like a yoga class for your feet. Slip a pair on for a daily ‘reboot’ for your alignment and your whole body will feel the difference, they’re literally happiness at your feet!”

We’ll wait and see who falls for the charms of the Walkstar v.2 but Michelle Obama, Laura Bailey, Helena Bonham Carter, Keri Russell, Julianne Moore, Nigella Lawson and Penelope Cruz all had a pair (in some cases several pairs).

Want to jump on the bandwagon? Head to FitFlop’s website and make a beeline for your style-of-choice. The classic webbing design starts are £60 (there’s red, bronze, rose gold, navy and black) and there’s a leather style at £70 (in black, light tan and beige.) If you fancy something more luxe, the limited edition version in black or beige is embossed with gold foil, £100. The sandals are also being sold at John Lewis and Jones Bootmaker and come in UK sizes 3-9. Now, shall we go for a walk?
