Jesy Nelson is set to launch a solo career after signing a new record deal – here’s what we know

She may have only recently announced her departure from Little Mix but Jesy Nelson surprised fans today by announcing she’s embarking on an exciting new solo career.

Five months since leaving the girl group, Jesy has confirmed she’s just signed a new record deal with music powerhouse label Polydor. The singer shared the news via Instagram with a snap of herself crouching in front of the Polydor logo, with the caption” “So excited to announce that I’ve signed my first ever solo record deal with @polydorrecords @universalmusicgroup. This is such a pinch me moment. I cannot wait for you guys to hear what I’ve been working on.”

Friends and fans were quick to react to the news. Her brother Johnny wrote, “It’s time 💥 proud of you ❤️” while model Felicity Howard added, “Literally so proud ❤️.”

The singer has reportedly been working in the studio over the past few months after quitting Little Mix in December.

She revealed one of the reasons for leaving the band after nine years was for mental health reasons, telling fans the band “has really taken a toll on my mental health” and admitted that she found “the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”

The singer added, “There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.” She said, “I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy. I’m ready to embark on a new chapter in my life – I’m not sure what its going to look like right now, but I hope you’ll still be there to support me.”

No details of Jesy’s first single or album release have been revealed as of yet but we are expecting great things.
