These are officially the 10 hottest fashion buys in the world RN (so how many do you own?)

It’s been a funny old year for fashion. Yes, loungewear and face mask sales have gone through the roof but designer fashion has understandably taken a backseat due to the current climate.

As we head out of lockdown and return to a sense of normality (read: have the opportunity to change our of PJs for the first time in six months), fashion is finally back on the agenda.

But when it comes to the ever-changing, capricious world of fashion, it can often be hard to keep up, especially after such sartorial deprivation over the past 12 months. If you’re currently asking yourself ‘what’s everyone wearing?’, ‘When did that trend become uncool?!’ and ‘are puffer coats really worth the investment, we have answers.

Global fashion shopping platform Lyst has released the latest edition of The Lyst Index, the quarterly report ranking fashion’s hottest brands and products.

And as the report attests, there are signs of consumer optimism and pent-up demand being released for items beyond loungewear (finally!).

“The things shoppers have been browsing, saving and buying in the Lyst app suggest an imminent return to going-out wear,” said Bridget Mills-Powell, Content Director at Lyst. “Sweats have seen us through the past year, but many fashion-lovers are now looking to set aside the sweatpants and rediscover the joy of dressing up. In the fashion industry, we’re seeing a spirit of openness and togetherness, with many brands collaborating.

“Influencers are raising the profile of newer designers like Nensi Dojaka, whose strappy dress appears in The Lyst Index. Cultural moments like Amanda Gorman’s role in the presidential inauguration inspired fashion lovers with her poetry and Prada ensemble. It’s exciting to see optimism making a comeback.”

To find the world’s hottest products, Lyst’s formula filters more than eight million items by volume of social media mentions, searches, page views, interactions and sales across thousands of online stores. They group colours for styles, and take into account global demand per volume of stock available. So without further ado, here are the 10 most in-demand fashion buys of the year…

1. The North Face x Gucci GG canvas bomber jacket
2. Hermès pre-owned Kelly bag
3. Bottega Veneta Lug boot
4. Prada re-edition 2005 nylon bag
5. The Attico Devon mules
6. Prada satin headband
7. Nike Go FlyEase racer
8. Adidas x Ivy Park monogram bucket hat
9. Rolex pre-owned 40mm Submariner
10. Nensi Dojaka asymmetric mini dress

The hottest women’s product in the world is the monogram jacket from The North Face x Gucci collection. Designer collaborations are nothing new, but this one had everyone talking. Combining Gucci’s distinctive motif with The North Face’s recent momentum resulted in fireworks: the jacket was all over Instagram and instantly sold-out. Resellers subsequently asked up to 5x its original price.

The report also shows that categories such as high heels and dresses are rising, with searches up 163% and 222% quarter-on-quarter. The Attico’s Devon mules, worn by celebrities including Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber, are the 5th hottest women’s product, while Nensi Dojaka’s influencer-approved strappy dress takes 10th place.

Demand for pre-owned Hermès bags was up by 430%, with the famous Kelly model particularly sought-after. Viewed as both an investment and a classic statement to elevate a variety of outfits, demonstrated by influencers including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Camille Charrière, the bag is the 2nd hottest women’s product. Pre-owned luxury watches were also in demand throughout the quarter, with searches rising by 47%. Notably, female shoppers were interested in larger sizes – traditionally marketed at men – and Rolex’s 40mm Submariner takes 9th place in the women’s products list.

We totally appreciate that a lot of these items are high-end and it’s been a tough year for our finances so if you have some money saved and are looking for a sustainable investment buy, one of these could be the answer.
