Spend too much time mindlessly swiping on dating apps? Thursday is the brand new app to help you find love – and it only works on one day of the week…

We have a very love-hate relationship with dating apps. Whether we’re looking for love or a bit of fun, constantly swiping on Tinder and Hinge can be as fun as it is exhausting.

That’s probably why, in the last couple of years, there been plenty of new dating app launches aiming to disrupt the mindless swipe-left-swipe-right formula, from authentic video-based profiles on Curtn to giving the lowdown on your tastes and hobbies via Coffee Meets Bagel.

But this week, there’s a brand new dating app launching that’s unlike anything we’ve tried before.

Billed as the highly-anticipated ‘dating app that doesn’t work 85.7% of the time’, Thursday launches on 6th May across London and New York, and according to the app, over 110,000 users have already signed up. It is, apparently, the ‘app designed to get you OFF tech’, encouraging users to ‘spend less time swiping and more time meeting others, enjoying the journey of being single’.

A statement for the app reads: “Aware of the indecisive nature of millennial Brits, and born from the belief that people are spending too much time on dating apps, this launch is set to carve new waves in the dating world by only being live on one day of the week, Thursdays.”

So, how does it work? The app comes to life at 00.01am every Thursday morning, with all matches and conversations disappearing at midnight. Less time means less boring small talk and more spontaneity, meaning you have to ask fast if you want to secure a date. Thursday allows users to spend more time going out and meeting people, with Thursday the one day of the week dedicated to online dating.

No need to worry about catfishing either, as all users are verified before joining by uploading either their passport or driving license. This is a key safety feature that not many other dating apps utilise, so that gets a big thumbs up from us. Additionally, abusive messages and hate speech will not be tolerated, so any racists, misogynists or body-shamers will be blocked and not allowed to return to the app.

The app will roll out to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Dublin later in May.

Thursday will be available to download from the App Store and Google Play on Sunday 2nd May.
