Fabric-bleached hair is going viral on TikTok and it’s making us want to experiment

You thought you’d seen all the trends – but then the bleached-fabric hair look started appearing on social media.

Not seen it yet? Well, it’s sweeping our feeds. It’s a unique way to dye hair so that it looks kinda like the way fabric looks when you tie dye it, with stripes and asymmetrical shapes.

If you thought experimental looks were a thing of lockdown only (when there was freedom to live with it quietly at home if it went wrong) then you’re mistaken – fun and playful vibes are part of the spirit of post-lockdown life.

You can see this style from a hair content account on Instagram called HOLYHAIR.

On TikTok, #tiedyehair has 922.1k views and is filled with people giving themselves a similar look, showing how they stripe the dye into their hair in a criss-cross fashion.

Using bleach in this way, especially on dark hair, gives a dramatic and edgy finish.

But it’s not just about whitened shades – you can achieve this look with fun pops of colour that are either boldly applied or softly interspersed under the top layer of hair so that it peaks through.

Beauty trends are moving away from the idea of perfectionism and having ‘the perfect blend’, instead artists are embracing colour and experimentation which is a sign of the times we’re in.

You might not feel you can pull of something as statement as this, but it’s got us thinking about how we can change up our looks.

Underneath these cool takes on hair colour, fans are showing their love with tons of heart emoji and comments on how “amazing” this looks.

Bleached-fabric is the hair inspo we never knew we needed.
