Kaia Gerber chats journalling for her mental health, energising crystals and finding her glam in lockdown

“I’ve learned to feel glam in my sweat pants at this point,” reveals the 19 year old model and budding actress, Kaia Gerber on lockdown life.
More accustomed to finding her ‘glam’ on the catwalk as bonafide modelling royalty and daughter of original super Cindy Crawford, Kaia admits one of the perks of the day job walking for the world’s best designers, is having her chic bob and enviable eyebrows coiffed by the pros. Yet the past year has led her to discover an alt type of glam. Like many of us it has involved working from home often in trackie bottoms, but she reveals she’s also partial to a spritz of perfume as a daily ‘glam’ ritual.

Chatting to GLAMOUR over Zoom, for her episode of ‘My Glamifesto For Life’, she reveals the wellness and self care hacks she lives by. They include journaling for positive mental health, listening to her music-making pals and performing energising crystal ceremonies on the full moon. She admits, “It’s probably not the most normal thing to witness.”

My instant mood booster is good music

“Right now I’m listening to Charlotte Lawrence who’s a friend, but also just makes great music and she has a new EP and that’s been definitely getting my spirits up the last week.”

I actively manage my mental health

“Yeah, I think it’s definitely difficult to manage your mental health, especially with the state of the world, but I’ve definitely developed some practices that help. I write every morning things that I’m grateful for, things that I can do to make myself happy today. Then I check back in at the end of the night and I write again the things that would have made today better, only things that I can control though, and things that made me happy today and that I’m grateful for again. Just being conscious of those things has really helped me manage my mental health.” And when all else fails her mantra is “Today is a new day.”

Glam is a state of mind

“I feel my most glam probably doing shows. I would say I feel definitely very glam when I have professionals doing my hair and makeup, but I’ve learned to feel glam in sweat pants at this point. So I think it’s a mindset. It’s a state of mind, it’s not everything else.

Fragrance is an everyday ritual for me

“Yeah, fragrance is important to me. It’s become a ritual for me to wear [Marc Jacobs] Daisy since I was 14. I’ve been in the Daisy family for so long and it feels like a home to me. So to be able to evolve with the brand and have it be consistent through my whole life has been really wonderful.

Right now I’m loving Daisy Eau So Intense [£54 for 30ml, Marc Jacobs] because I feel like I’m entering a new phase of my life. So to have this more rich, intense version of [the original] Daisy that I was wearing all throughout my teen years is really awesome. I feel more grown up when I wear it and it lasts all day.

Friendship should be a safe space

I value loyalty most in my friendships and just a safe space, feeling like you can tell them anything and it will stay there. That’s something that I really value. After the pandemic, I am most looking forward to, one, just seeing my friends and also I think seeing live music with my friends. That’s something that I love to do and haven’t been able to do in a long time. It will be one of the first things I try to do when we can. Alanis Morissette was going on tour and I was very excited for that and then I couldn’t go see her. So, if that happens again, that will be top of my list.

Full moon crystal ceremonies are part of my self care routine

I’d say the quirkiest thing I do is probably my crystals that I leave outside to charge on the full moon and then bring back inside. I’ll lay with them on me or place them in different areas. I am very into Feng Shui and things like that. It’s probably not the most normal thing to witness, but I guess it’s not so far out. My favourite crystal that I really love is rose quartz. I just think it’s one that everyone should have and it just brings in a lot of really good energy and that’s just one that I like to have all over.
