The battery issues that some iPhone 11 users have been putting up with for some time will be fixed by the iOS 14.5 update. Many have complained of inaccurate battery health estimates. Apple says the battery health reporting system will be recalibrated, allowing the phones to give more accurate readings and to alert users of the next steps if battery health has been compromised.
The iPhone’s major iOS 14 update garnered a lot of buzz for the useful new features like Power Reserve it offered. However, it also came with its own problems too, including to do with the battery. Last year, Apple Support’s official Twitter page was flooded by user reports of the iPhone 11’s battery draining prematurely after updating to iOS 14, with many affected users wondering if their iPhone batteries needed to be replaced.
The iOS 14.5 update will be released later this spring with a remedy to the battery health reporting issue, according to Apple. Affected models include the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple assures that those affected by the bug shouldn’t worry about their battery hardware, as the inaccurate reading does not affect the handset’s actual battery health.
How To Recalibrate iPhone Battery In Upcoming iOS 14.5 Update
There are many ways to check an iPhone 11’s battery information, but it might not display the correct figures without the proper calibration function that iOS 14.5 comes with. To ensure that the phone’s battery is currently calibrating, users should first open up the phone’s Settings, select the ‘Battery’ option, then tap on ‘Battery Health.’ If the battery is recalibrating, users should be greeted with an ‘Important Battery Message’ notification at the top of the menu.
It’s worth noting that the process itself isn’t instantaneous, and might take a couple of weeks to finish. If successful, the top message will disappear, and users will finally be able to see their accurate updated battery information. However, if the recalibration process was deemed unsuccessful, the message will reflect the problem along with information on how users can arrange for the battery to be serviced. Apple stressed that users whose phones have failed the calibration process need not worry about any health hazards, as the battery can still be used safely, it just won’t last as long as it used to. Either way, users should be able to enjoy the various fixes and improvements that iOS 14.5 will bring.
