We oversimplify the word, unique, by throwing it around too liberally. However, in the case of this Father & Twin Daughter-Son trio, Avni Vir Vineet, ‘Unique’ is one of the most accurate ways to describe them. Avni and Vir are 14 years old and they have collaborated with their father on this musical creation. Vineet is a seasoned musician, himself, and he believes being a part of the group, gives his twins an appreciation for hard work and ethics. For their 4th single, “Can I Go Now,” they have expanded their presence and continued to define their sound.
With their past two singles charting on the European Indie Charts, as well as amassing over 300,000 Spotify streams, AVV has some momentum. While their nonage is the cornerstone of their identity, you never get the impression that they don’t take their music seriously. Can’t you see/I just can’t bear/Don’t you see/I need some air. With their Father, Vineet, acting as producer on “Can I Go Now,” the twins creatively express their dissatisfaction with monotonous and desultory tasks. They pine for an escape, and to connect with their peers.
Musically speaking, “Can I Go Now” is a pop 40 song. It centers on the vocals, with the programmed beats, providing a pleasing backdrop. Avni handles lead vocal duties, and she personifies the spirit of his age group. The song is designed to be danced to, and AVV do their best to put the groove in people’s step. Several times throughout the track, Avni takes a single word, and expounds upon it.
AVV are sure to stay in their wheelhouse. Their genre has somewhat limited representation, and nobly, AVV does their best to help fill that void. After all, they are representing a generation that has been an unfortunate and somewhat overlooked casualty of the pandemic era. They have had their entire lives inverted, much like the rest of us, of course. The difference is that they have even fewer memories to find solace in, during a time of despair and a dwindling sense of hope.
Therefore, there is an audience in dire need of embracing all of the carefree and casually optimistic qualities of being young. To exist for today, and find some sense of certainty in your tomorrow, is nearly as coveted as world peace, right now. Music as elementary as AVV’s may not seem to be deep enough to provide a generational soundtrack, unless it’s the one they belong to. In that case they simply need to symbolize the most simplistic aspects of adolescence, in living by example. By this system, “Can I Go Now” is as much of an anthem for early teens, as “Once In A Lifetime” was for the middle aged.
AVV have truly just gotten their start in the wacky world of music. Of course, let’s hope their primary focus is on their education. Even if they remain committed to a career in Rock and Roll, the music industry is one of the most starved, for educated and responsible human beings at the moment. It’s reassuring to see AVV off to a promising start, and it will be compelling to see where they go from here. The answer is yes, AVV, you can definitely go as far as you choose.
