Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer’s collab has finally arrived, and it’s just what I needed to hear. On Thursday, the duo released the lyric video for “What Other People Say,” which is all about staying true to yourself and not worrying about the opinions of others. “‘What Other People Say’ is a confession, realizing how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked,” Fischer told Billboard in a statement about the emotional track. “It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you.”
In a separate statement, Lovato added, “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society. It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.” Lovato and Fischer have yet to drop the official music video for the song, but judging from the lyrics and the teasers they’ve already shared, I have a feeling it’s going to be powerful.
