The Bold Type season 5 will be its last so if you’re a fan of Emily In Paris, you need to catch up

Some good news: The Bold Type has been renewed for Season 5. YAY. The bad news? It’s going to be our last. Boo.

That’s right, our favourite mag industry drama is coming to an end after four great years of glamour, scandal and ambition at the heart of fictional women’s glossy, Scarlet Magazine.

News of a fifth and final season was confirmed on Twitter this January and even though we’re only getting six episodes (!!) of the TV show this time around, we’ll be pleased to see how things turn out for Jane, Kat and Sutton.

If you haven’t seen a single episode, you can still catch the first three seasons on Amazon Prime Video, but all you need to know is that for Emily In Paris fans, it’s a certified must-watch.

The New York drama centres on three fearless publishing assistants played by Aisha Dee (Kat), Katie Stevens (Jane) and Meghann Fahy (Sutton) as they navigate the turbulent world of women’s magazines.

Over four years, we’ve seen how their personal and professional lives intersect as Jane becomes a fully-fledged journalist, stylist Sutton moves into fashion design and Kat shifts from social media into a career with the city council.

It’s expected that the final episodes will air in 2021 (Corona-permitting) so there’s still time to watch – or rewatch – The Bold Type before our next fix. As for Season 5, here’s what we know already (and newbies beware, *spoilers ahead*).

Which cast members will feature?

In the first Season 5 table read-through (teased on Twitter this week), The Bold Type stars gathered to go over exactly what’s in the new scripts and we can only wish we were flies on the wall.

While they didn’t give away any storyline secrets, Executive Producer Wendy Straker Hauser did confirm that our gals Aisha, Katie and Meghann would all reprise their on-screen roles.

Alongside them, Melora Hardin will be back to play Scarlet’s editor-in-chief Jacqueline Carlyle and fan favourite Nikohl Boosheri will again play Kat’s girlfriend, the photographer Adena El-Amin.

Actors Matt Ward and Stephen Conrad Moore will also return as writer Alex Crawford and Oliver Grayson, head of Scarlet magazine’s fashion department, respectively.

Where can I watch The Bold Type Season 5?

Despite being due to return to Freeform in the US, Season 5 of The Bold Type is expected on Amazon Prime Video when it comes to the UK.

Currently, you can watch all the way up to Season 3 on the streaming platform but we’re still waiting for the release of Season 4, which aired over there late last summer.

When will it air?

While there’s no confirmed release date for the Season 5 debut, we know that production is at the script read-through stage, as per the January 21st announcement. The first episode of the series, Episode 501, will be called Trust Fall.

Season 4 of The Bold Type wrapped in the US on July 16, 2020 so could it be ready for this summer? We’ll have to wait and see…

How many episodes will be in Season 5?

Only six episodes have been ordered to complete the final run of The Bold Type. In the first three series, there were 10 episodes but when Season 4 was in production, the episodes were cut back from 18 to 16 due to Coronavirus disruption.

What will happen?

According to Freeform’s official synopsis, Season 5 will look ahead to the girls’ future.

It reads: “Our trio is on the brink of defining who they really are and how best to leave their mark on the world. Their futures are bright, and their love and support for each other will never change.”

The conclusion to Season 4 (which was supposed to go on for two more episodes) showed Sutton drunkenly hooking up with her married ex after her split from husband Richard. So, does this mean things between Sutton and Richard are dunzo for good?

Elsewhere, Kat appeared to end things with her love interest Eva, which leaves the door wide open for the return of Adena, no? Meanwhile, for Jane, it’s a work predicament rather than a personal one that leaves her in a quandary at the end of S4. So what does this mean for her future at Scarlet?

It’s all the drama, we just love it.
