Rumour: ‘Death Stranding’ to Receive Extended Edition With New Story Content For PS5 & PS4

Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus have teased DLC multiple times for Death Stranding for a while now, but with nothing to show for it. However, according to an thread on ResetEra (taper your expectations, obviously), that will all be coming to a head in the future.

Again, this is a rumour, so yadda yadda grain of salt.

Anyway, in a thread talking about PlayStation Studios games, an “insider” known as Navtra posted a reply, stating that “If you’re interested in Death Stranding but haven’t played it yet, it might be worth it to wait a lil bit.”

When asked whether he was referring to a sort of Extended Edition for Death Stranding for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the Navtra replied with a simple “Yup”.

Later on, Navtra dropped hints that this extended edition will come with new story content. As such, a possible upgrade paid for PS5 will likely be paid one. “Even if there’s an upgrade path I think it will be paid since there’s new story content in this version”, he said.

Later on, Navtra chimed in again, this time mentioning a possible The Last of Us Part II PS5 patch. “I know a patch was in the work at some point but I’m not sure if it’s still happening or when”, Navtra said when asked about a possible the patch. “I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get a patch, though.”

In case you’re wondering (I know I am) if we’re to trust this source, Navtra apparently has a track record of being correct when it comes to PlayStation news, such as claiming that Final Fantasy XVI would have some kind of PS5 exclusivity, as well as correctly predicting the Future of Gaming event lineup. Furthermore, Navtra is also a “verified” member of the forums.

Still, best to taper one’s expectations, as none of these claims have been verified by Sony, Naughty Dog, Kojima Productions or Kojima himself. But, given that Kojima has given attention to PC gamers regarding Death Stranding, with no PS4 equivalent, it’d be safe to say that PlayStation owners will get theirs at some point.

Death Stranding is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
