Watch St. Vincent Cover the Beatles’ “Martha My Dear”

St. Vincent performed a cover of the Beatles’ 1968 track “Martha My Dear” during the Ally Coalition’s Annual Talent Show. The livestreamed event raised money for homeless LGBTQ+ youth and featured performances from Sleater-Kinney, Brittany Howard, Lana Del Rey, Hayley Williams, and more. Watch the cover below.

Earlier this month, St. Vincent revealed in an interview with MOJO that she has a new record arriving in 2021. She described the album as a “tectonic shift,” explaining, “I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity. I was interested in going back to the music I’ve listened to more than any other—Stevie Wonder records from the early ’70s, Sly and the Family Stone. I studied at the feet of those masters.”

She added that the album has “the color palette of the world of Taxi Driver” and “Gena Rowlands in a Cassavetes film.” St. Vincent added, “I just wanted to capture the colors, the film stock, and tell these stories of being down and out, down on your luck.”
