Saturday Night Live announced its hosts and musical guests for the remainder of the year, and they’ve got three sensational line-ups in a row planned.
December 5 kicks things off with Jason Bateman making a return to the hosting spotlight. His previous appearance was in February 2005. (His monologue included zings about Michael Jackson which didn’t really land then, let alone now.) Joining Bateman will be Morgan Wallen, the country star originally booked for October, but who was dropped after failing to follow the show’s coronavirus prevention protocols.
December 12 brings the stellar pairing of Timothée Chalamet and Bruce Springsteen. Chalamet, whose film adaptation of Dune was supposed to come out around this time before COVID stopped its flow, will make his first appearance. (Here’s hoping some sort of Dune sketch still wormed its way through the pitch stage; America needs to see Timothée kneeling before a spoof Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother now!)
Springsteen, who will be backed by the E Street Band, has hit the SNL stage three times previously, in 1992, 2002, and 2015. This most recent appearance, just before his tour in celebration of the then-35th anniversary of his album The River, afforded him the opportunity to rip into some classics.
December 19 marks another return for Kristen Wiig. The former cast member (from 2002 to 2012) has hosted in 2013, 2016, and was the final host for this past spring’s “At Home” SNL episodes. With Wonder Woman making its HBO Max debut on December 25, we can certainly expect some Cheetah-centric gags and stunts.
Joining her will be Dua Lipa, recent recipient of six Grammy Award nominations, including for album of the year.
Will Lipa and Wiig duet? Not sure. Don’t make her sing.
