With the exception of James Woods, Scott Baio, and Jon Voight, soon-to-be-former President Donald Trump does not exactly have a great many allies in Hollywood.
Indeed, news that Trump is now, officially, a loser, was met with great merriment in most major cities. (This writer can report that in Queens, New York, Trump’s ancestral homeland, there was horn-honking, pot-banging, and cheering usually reserved for the results of the World Cup.)
Over in Brooklyn, an impromptu celebration took place in the street. Spike Lee was seen dancing and opening a bottle of champagne.
Lizzo shared an emotional video, in which she said, among other things, “this white supremacy that runs rampant can not be tolerated anymore.”
Barbra Striesand sent well-wishes to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, and included a live excerpt of her singing “Happy Days Are Here Again.” The old tune has been part of her repertoire since her first album in 1963, but was initially associated with Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s campaign.
Cher has been a Biden-booster since before the primaries, and unleashed a series of hallelujah tweets.
Kim Kardashian West hit send three times after the news broke. While her commentary was restricted to supportive emojis, it’s still notable considering that her husband, Kanye West, was, technically, running against the Biden-Harris ticket.
With so much news blasting in our face at all times, Mark Ruffalo took the step to make sure his followers saw Vice President-Elect Harris congratulating President-Elect Biden on the win.
Alyssa Milano shared this view of New York having fun.
Certainly less genteel than the others included, but speaking a language Trump would understand, Michael Rapaport sent the 45th president a message. The video is a little rough around the edges, but definitely aids in lowering blood pressure.
