Niantic has made a special free item box available to all trainers in the Pokémon GO store following an error, that the creators have now fixed, which kept Shiny Shadow Pokémon from appearing in the game. The limited-time package will be filled with useful, if somewhat common, items and is offered alongside Niantic’s apologies for the issue.
Getting this problem sorted out quickly might have been a priority for the developers due to a flood of celebratory content currently going into the game and some events hovering just on the Pokémon GO horizon. Recently, two new Pokémon from the Galar region were introduced to the game in honor of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC launching. The Galarian Ponyta and Sirfetch’d debuted with their own separate festivities and are now available to hatch by walking 7km eggs. Pokémon GO has also announced a special event to coincide with the Day of the Dead. Unsurprisingly this will see a host of spooky Pokémon becoming more active and more frequently attracted by incense.

Trainers in need of a restock after catching an unreasonable amount of Drifloons will find all of these free items very valuable, especially with the any further seasonal content coming this month. Pokémon GO traditionally celebrates Halloween in style, releasing various costume-wearing creatures into the wild. According to an earlier leak, trainers may have even more to get excited about than new wardrobe options. Datamined information seems to suggest that Runerigus, a Gen 8 Pokémon, will soon come to Pokémon GO for the first time, along with some new treats in the store.
There are a lot of games getting into the Halloween season recently. Everything from Red Dead Online to Animal Crossing: New Horizons is starting to reveal, new seasonal content. The embarrassment of Halloween riches leaves many players unable to participate in all the events going on. Pokémon GO may have an advantage being a game that anyone can play anywhere at a moments notice, however. It is possible the game’s Halloween celebration will tempt a few players to jump in and pick up the free items Niantic has sitting in the shop right now.
