Interview with Mark and the Tiger

What has been the greatest moment of 2020 for you?

Well it’s been so long ago now this barely feels like 2020, but way back at the beginning of January I played a gig at the Whisky A Go Go and that was by far the coolest part of my year! And possibly my life!

How do you want your art to be remembered?

I would love to make an album akin to “Jagged Little Pill” something unique and raw that changes the way people think about music. That album was the soundtrack of a generation and I would love to think that my words and music could have the same magic.

How have you felt most appreciated as a creative and artist?

Yes and no. I think for a long time that was true. In fact, maybe that’s even part of the reason why I dove so hard into music. But I’ve spent the last ten years really working to build myself up from the inside out. I needed to get to a place where music was something I did because I needed to do it to feel fulfilled, not because I was looking for appreciation. Hopefully, I’m mostly there now!

Who have been your strongest allies in your career?

My parents have been unwavering in their support for my entire life. I couldn’t do any of this without their help and constant cheerleading.

What do you see as the most important part of your journey?

It’s pretty hard to choose one thing. It’s been a long road and there is definitely more road to walk down. I used to think that there was going to be one moment, one big experience that was going to be the thing that made my career take off. But as time has gone by I’ve gotten better about looking back on my life and seeing the culmination of all the experiences I’ve had. Everything plays a part even if we can’t see how important it is in the moment.

Please tell us about your latest project and how we can get involved!

I’ve got a new EP coming out on Halloween day! It’s a 6 track EP with 2 bonus versions of a couple of the songs. These are all the songs I’ve been working on over the past few years and I’m excited to finally show them off. And I’m doing a live show on my IG page that day at 3 pm. My first virtual show of quarantine!
