On Tuesday, Dominic West and his wife Catherine FitzGerald proved that their marriage is still going “strong” with a staged smooch and public statement for the paparazzi. But despite this passionate display of monogamy, it seems there are still some lingering questions about the actor and Lily James’s very friendly Roman holiday after a “witness” came forward with a few mildly salacious details from The Pursuit of Love costars’ weekend away. And Harper Bazaar UK‘s new video interview with James, which includes her thoughts on affairs and making mistakes, certainly isn’t helping to squash rumors either.
According to a witness to James and West’s al fresco canoodling who spoke with Page Six, “[He] couldn’t resist kissing her neck and stroking her,” during a lunch with their shared agent at Ristorante Da Sabatino. “They really knocked back a lot of wine and Lily looked a bit worse for wear.” The intimate moments reportedly didn’t end there. “They then visited the nearby church, the Chiesa di Sant’Ignazio, and Dominic placed his hand on Lily’s butt.” Sources also confirmed to the outlet that the pair reportedly spent two nights in a suite at Rome’s Hotel De La Ville.
All of these eye-witness details don’t amount to a whole lot more than what’s clearly visible in paparazzi photos of the actors’ outing, but a video of James shot last month and released on Sunday also has some choice quotes that, while fairly generic, are also inadvertently adding fuel to this tabloid fire. In the interview, the actress discusses her new Netflix film Rebecca saying, “The character of Rebecca went against all norms as a woman, disobeyed her husband, had affairs, was basically just brilliant, and that was only in the 1930s. So, I think people are still afraid of women when they’re unleashed. Women are warriors and that’s intimidating.”
She added, “I think I make mistakes all the time, you know, that’s what life’s about. And I would never want to run away from a situation or be too scared to act. I think that it’s better to throw yourself in and make mistakes with an open heart. If your instincts are right, even if they’re misguided or if you’re open, you can recover from your mistakes and learn from them.”
