“Finally Free” by Heather Fay

It’s so easy to get caught in the sparkling web singer Heather Fay spins in her new track “Finally Free”. Shimmering with glamour sparkles, peppered with ching-ching-ching percussion, Fay’s flow in the song is just the groove to kiss that no good boyfriend behind and move beyond. Making it easy to hum along, Fay’s self-penned “Finally Free” feels like a hit.

Now you got me buggin’…maybe one day you will finally see, Fay sings. Based in Los Angeles, California, Fay grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Her midwestern roots add a nice backdrop to the dreamy vocals, the projection that she wants bigger and better things. One shouldn’t assume that Missouri doesn’t have the same opportunities is music – after all Nelly and Tech N9ne have storied careers, but maybe they are the exception. It’s understandable and perhaps understated in her drive to succeed Fay took the leap to Los Angeles. She has that charm, that chutzpah in her voice that can’t be replicated.

The backing music creates a feeling of euphoria and dance action all-at-once. It’s not a straight EDM sound, but a kaleidoscope of colors ranging from pastels to primary purples. The song has a sense of nightlife and in turn feels like something you might hear at the club. I think, though, many people out there might teeter more into the straight pop genre with this song. Fay’s voice is very good and very radio friendly. The zesty music bed is a straight up winner alongside her voice. When she sings the he’s watching her every move, she has a playful tone. In fact, the whole song could be construed to be something nefarious, but Fay keeps it light and fun. Maybe she’s paying homage to her one of her influences, Mariah Carey, but she does hit some high notes in certain parts. Diva in training? We will have to see. She comes across very likable, but maybe she’s holding back the extra diva songs for later. I’d like to hear more depth in her next song, maybe something that has a bit more meat in the lyrics. Her voice is just too good and while I escaped into the satin, ribbon-like motion, I think next time around I’d like to compare to something more of a ballad. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great storyteller, but “Finally Free” isn’t as dramatic as a heartbreak song.

“Finally Free” is Fay’s second track from her debut album Sensual. Her previous song, “The One” is another standout. “The One” claimed the top spot on Euro Indie Charts. Fay had previously released a few indie singles, like “Killin’ Me” and “Let’s Get Close”. She began her career as a model, but she’s learned to what she calls in her press materials, “harness her energies to deliver a powerful performance”. Fay can breathe a sigh of relief. Not only is “Finally Free” a strong single, but she’s quickly garnering a solid fan base with her natural talents. She successfully harnesses her energies in the very fun “Finally Free”.
