She has been one of the hardest working royals during the pandemic, but Sophie, Countess of Wessex has now been forced to self-isolate after coming into contact with an individual who has tested positive for Covid-19.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement this morning confirming that the Queen’s daughter-in-law is following government guidance to self-isolate for the next 14 days, while adding that Sophie is currently showing no symptoms.
Sophie is with her husband Prince Edward and their son and daughter at their Windsor home, Bagshot Park. Because Sophie is not showing any symptoms her husband and their children Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn are not required to self isolate.
A statement from palace said, “Earlier this week The Countess of Wessex came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. She is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.”
Sources close to the countess said that she plans to continue her work virtually where possible, but will not be undertaking any public engagements until she knows she is Covid negative. It is understood that Sophie, who is close to the Queen and regularly visits the monarch at Windsor Castle with her children has not come into contact with Her Majesty or other royal family members since discovering she has potentially been exposed to the virus.
Since the lockdown in March Sophie and her husband Prince Edward have taken on high-profile, hands-on roles to support the nation and the Queen helping volunteer during the lockdown and packaging supplies for vulnerable members of the community. Over the past week the countess has carried out royal engagements across the country, starting in Vauxhall City Farm, London, and most recently at the National Space Centre in Leicester.On Sunday, she took part in the London Marathon for the learning disability charity Mencap joining 45,000 people across Britain who were running, jogging or walking the 26 mile race in the rain.
