While we may be sad that summer is over, there is so much to look forward to as autumn edges its way in. With the season’s new colour palettes and wardrobe comes a whole host of fresh new hair trends. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to change up our look and try something a little different.
We know that, in terms of haircut trends for this season, it’s all about the messy, casual shag (minds out the gutter please) and fringes galore. And when it comes to colour, we’ve already seen the likes of bold cherry red and gloss brown à la Kim K – but the latest hair hue trend to take salons and the ‘gram by storm is titanium.
The shade is, as its name suggests, a metallic silver with cool or ashy undertones, which also lends itself nicely to ombré or highlights in pink or blue shades.
“Over the past year we’ve seen seen many women on TikTok or Instagram colouring their hair titanium, and many of my clients have taken inspiration from Dua Lipa,” says Windle London colourist Natalia Romaniuc.
“It can be just the front sections or the full hair, and to achieve the result you’ll have to bleach your hair (full head/highlights/few sections). The lighter you go, the brighter the end result will be, and some clients choose to add lavender sections, too.”
The shade does require maintenance, advises Natalia. “As we all know, after bleaching, the porosity of your hair will change and the colour that you apply to achieve the titanium look will fade gradually after washing. So, I advise maintaining the colour every two to three weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair. If you’re doing it at home, it is really important to follow your colourist directions and products – don’t buy colour before consulting a professional.”
Finally, give your new titanium tresses some TLC. Natalia advises looking after the condition of your hair with treatments such as Opalex, hair oils and masks, and avoiding heat styling as much as possible.
