Kicking off the return of the NFL, Chloe x Halle gave a beautiful performance of the national anthem at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday evening. And to the surprise of no one, the sisters’ delivered a stunningly moving rendition. As they sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” to kick off the first game of the season between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, the Grammy-nominated duo wore matching T-shirts to honor the lives of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and bring attention to their wrongful deaths, making their performance all the more powerful. Halle wore a tee with the words “Rest In Peace George Floyd,” while Chloe was in a “Say Her Name Breonna Taylor” shirt.
This wasn’t their first time taking on the national anthem: the sisters previously sang the patriotic number for the BET Experience in 2016, and again to start the NFL Draft in 2017. Chloe x Halle have certainly been booked and busy with the summer release of their sophomore album, Ungodly Hour, as well as next-level virtual gigs at award shows and specials alike, and of course, they’ve managed to nail it every single time. Chloe x Halle’s kickoff performance tonight was no different — check the full video out above.
