Mix and match nails: For when you’re not sure which design to choose

Nail FOMO is the worst. It’s tricky business when you commit to the “cloudy sky” design on the menu, but you’re still half-tempted by the “peaches and cream” number your mate’s got going on beside you. Especially when said nail art is Shellac’d on for the next three weeks.

But, for next time you find yourself in that particular predicament, we thought we’d give a shout-out to our favourite emerging nail trend. Some call it mismatched, some call it mix and match and some call it pick ‘n’ mix. Either way, it’s an eclectic mash-up of all your favourite designs, scattered across different fingers, all in one mani. Problem solved, you might say.

Enthusiasm for the trend has been gaining momentum and already, it’s earned major kudos after Kylie Jenner debuted her own rendition of the trend back in July. Spotlighting nine different designs, she mixed bright pink dots with cobalt blue cow print, yellow swirls, negative space orange outlines, eyelids and more.

Most of the major nail influencers have given it their own spin, too. Imarni combined squiggles with half moon yellow smilies, cherry print, polka dot and evil eyes. Eve Meets West has given us pink and purple checkerboard with two tone swooshes and yin and yang designs, while Overglow Edit gave us florals, fruit, fuchsia smiles and, combined that peach and cloud print we were talking about.

So consider this a very stylish way to combine an assorted mix of all your favourite designs. The possibilities are endless (or at least, you have 10 opportunities for a different work of art on each finger). It’s fun, it’s different, it’s a way to combine all your favourite things in one place and we for one are very much on board
