Sugarcane Jane is made up of Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee, Americana’s husband-wife duo from Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The duo wrote and recorded ten songs in the lockdown fashion and came out with and album all music lovers across the board can appreciate if they get wind of what it is made of. The distraction of late is heavy and all you need sometimes is some music to take it off the mind at the end of the day, and Ruffled Feathers; Songs In The Key Of Me is just the ticket for that on any given day of the year.

I was surprised to hear such a smoking hot record for this duo I hadn’t heard of before, the second I put the headphones on and started listening to “Feeling In A Song” but I also felt it would change with each track, as it does and some albums don’t’ quite get to that achievement of bringing a vast amount of variety within a genre. Americana is a mix of genres, so that’s a plus when it comes to me, and that also sums up the reason this is such a downright excellent album to anyone with an ear for good music.
“I’m Gonna Grow Me a Mind” knocks you off your feet with a real treat about the current affairs we are going through in a trying time of political squabble complicated by extreme idealists. It tends to control too many minds and this song is about getting a new one and hoping others follow suit. “Answer Of The Day” is also really good, it happens to be where things take off for me and it also contends with my picks for top tracks of the album which should run for top album of the year thus far.

The tracks move together and each one has a different vibe, but they all have the same message somewhere within, as “Good Book Stories” brings a softer rock feel into the bigger picture. This is a song where the duo really lock right in together and you want to play it around the house to the family. “Waiting For Answers” is another story altogether with one of the most well written and played tracks on Ruffled Feathers; Songs In The Key Of Me. This is an album you cannot get enough of, as each song proves to be a winner.

“Let The Media Die” just says it all, but you get much more withing the track of what the title itself suggests, so you can depend on another great song to get the overall point across on an album chock full of that and so much more. It’s just a very hard thing to flaw, but I am sure the next person would always find something. The album touches on some of that too, but it also helps with it as a result. “Long Overdue” and the album’s lead single “That’s What I See” are also worth noting, and don’t miss “Waking Up America” and the mystically cool “Holy Spirit” because it’s all a masterclass.
