“See You Dance” is the debut song from Baltimore’s Cristal Carrington. Flashy like neon lights and raging with gratifying grooves, Carrington leaves everything on the dance floor. A satisfying dance/pop track, Carrington’s perky vocals immediately grab the listener. From the intermixed counting in Spanish, to the drowning rhythms, Carrington’s fearlessly fun track hits all the right notes.

Growing up in Long Island, New York, artists like Madonna Britney Spears and Stevie Wonder, inspired Carrington. The upbeat, fresh-voiced Carrington is now based in Baltimore, Maryland. What makes “See You Dance” stand apart is her instant rapport. Her voice is friendly. The lyrical content is limited – just like most great pop-dance songs. I want to see you dance, I want to see you party, she busts. It’s repeated several times, with moments where she counts Uno! Dos! Tres! Quatro! excitedly. A few ‘intermission’ moments where she sings pump it up, pump it up. The music below Carrington’s charming voice sways the hips and the shoulders. It’s a pulsating burst of energy and light. Near the end of the song the plot thickens: she talks I’m feeling so lovely, all night long, I really want to go home with you. This little tidbit reminded me of something Madonna (and Brittney Spears) would do in a song. I thing it works very well for Carrington’s “See You Dance”. She’s a star in the making and quite bold to mix a variety of stylings and spunk in her debut outing.
Her music video, too, really showcases the spunk and carefree attitude. She edits in several videos of people dancing. The high-energy video features Carrington in a lovely, dashing sequined dress and blond wig. Perhaps it’s a nod to Madonna.
As a listener I was bound to Carrington’s vocals, but I found myself wanting to escape into the weaving wavelengths bubbling beneath my feet. I can’t say I’ve been to Baltimore, but the music bed reminded me of the Las Vegas nightlife. Like cars running red lights and the flashing casino marquees, so much of “See You Dance” screams nightlife and vitality. It’s a zig-zagging trip where Carrington puts the listener in the driver’s seat around volleying lights and beams. Lit with Carrington’s drive, her honey-dipped voice singing like it’s one-and-only chance, “See You Dance” gets the heart rate jumping. The modern beats thread themselves seamlessly through Carrington’s voice.
Again, I really enjoyed the backing music, but her voice is the real star in this tale. With so many options and a bevy of themes to choose from, she stays in her lane and sticks to her message. She doesn’t bore us, and she gets to the chorus. She’s engaging and enigmatic enough (based only on the fact that there are few lyrics in this song) that you want to find out more about her. I loved the mystery, and it allows even more reasons for the listener to take the song where they want it to go. I wanted to hear more of her voice in different octaves and lyrics. Alas, I will have to wait for her next tune. Her album, Revenge, is available via her Spotify profile. Judging by her quote, “there comes a point where you become numb to betrayal…only after get you revenge!” eludes to the fact that her album is stacked with juicy tracks.
