Cinderella blonde is the fantasy shade that spells a fresh start

If you thought the heinous roots that showed up over lockdown would put us off going full throttle blonde, you’d be sadly mistaken. While over in the blue corner are the forward-planners who’ve taken their hair back to a more natural, regrowth friendly shade so that they’re ready and smug should we hit a second peak, over in the red corner are the risk takers looking for a shade refresh to boost their hair colour alongside their mood.

“There’s going to be a bigger move towards blondes again,” says pro hair stylist, Luke Hersheson. “After being stuck inside for so long, I think people want brightening up,” he adds. “They want to feel lighter and lifted – and a bright colour can have a really uplifting, mood-boosting effect.”

The shade he predicts is really going to fly is the perfect mash-up of nostalgia made modern. “I think fantasy throwback Cinderella shades will be in,” he says. This means a luxe creamy colour that’s a little softer than the platinum and ice blondes we’ve been seeing.

It’s an entry-level shade for first-time bleachers (hair fatigue has prompted Emily Ratajkowski and Kaia Gerber to move to brighter shades recently) and it’s a flattering and more wearable option for girls with darker features – creamy blonde is a favourite among natural brunettes like Lily James (incidentally, Disney’s most recent Cinderella), Emma Roberts, Beyonce, and Serena Williams. That said, if you’re looking for something with less commitment, Luke says just brightening up your strands by a couple of shades can make a big difference. As for veteran blondes, it’s a pretty way to freshen things up and bring your hair colour back to its former glory.

Either way, care will form a big part of things. The trademark of dreamy Disney-princess blonde, is the expensive-looking, glossy condition, which means supplementing your salon visit with at-home hair masks is important. Something to throw on while you’re streaming Disney+ from your sofa in your PJs.
