Exclusive Interview with Lisa Mary

How would you classify your music?

Country with a pop edge

Who are your top 5 musical influences?

My grandfather would be number one, as he is the reason that I got started with music. Aside from him, I love Kacey Musgraves, John Mayer, Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood. I have so much respect for them as songwriters and I love all of their voices as well.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I want them to see a brand new side of me with this new single. I have never been one for love songs, and this is the first time I have ever released one as a single. This song was written as I was beginning to take a huge step in my personal life with my significant other, buying a house and living together. This song came from a place of excitement, nervousness, and optimism. It`s one of the most honest and vulnerable songs in my catalog and I just hope my fans love it.

How`s the music scene in your locale?

Very diverse is the best way I can put it. There is so much talent in Michigan, it`s unreal and from all genres!

What`s the best concert you have ever been to? What do you like most about playing live?

The best concert I`ve ever been to was actually a pop concert. I went to see JoJo at a small venue in Metro Detroit at the end of 2016. She was very popular back in the early 2000’s  but  she ended up in a legal battle with her record label for nearly a decade, but I`ve always been a fan of hers. I think she has one of the most under-rated voices in the music industry. I`ve admired her singing voice since I was a little girl. The concert was intimate, the energy in that room was indescribable and she was just flat out amazing that night.

Playing live is my favorite part about being an artist. I love entertaining a crowd and connecting with people in that way. This pandemic has really humbled me in the sense that I will NEVER take a single live show for granite ever again. I`ve never missed anything more.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite?

I have been doing the whole “artist” thing since I was 16, putting out music since I was 17, and I can honestly say that I have never been more excited for a release and I have never been more proud of the work that I`m putting out for my fans to hear than with this brand new single “Under One Roof”. Like I said before, it`s honest, it`s vulnerable, it has a lot of heart and it tells a story, my story!

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

Just in general, I`ve evolved so much as a person. This is the most “Adult” I`ve ever felt in my life. This year I bought my first home with my significant other, I`ve taken on a whole new set of responsibilities. Life looks so much different for me now than it did a year ago, I`ve matured as a person and I think that can be seen though my music too. It`s matured right along with me.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would that be and why?

Without a doubt, Kacey Musgraves. I have always admired her as a songwriter. I relate so much to her music. I think her voice is so angelic and beautiful. I would love to do all the above with Kacey!

What`s next for you?

Right now, it`s pushing this new single. I`m currently working on a new record that I`m really excited about. I have some things in the works that I can`t elaborate on just yet, but make sure to follow me on social media because I`m excited to share more soon!
