Exclusive Interview with Jeffrey Li

How would you classify your music?

Definitely POP

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Music-wise, I’ve had a lot of influences. If I were to narrow it down to five, they would be: Celine Dion, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Charlie Puth & the band Imagine Dragons

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I really want them to enjoy my songs. I hope they can feel my happiness, sadness, inspiration or mysteriousness that is put into the lyrics and in my voice.

How is the music scene in your locale?

Toronto is a great music city. I am just in the suburbs of that area. Canada in general has produced some of the biggest music names in the world. It is great!!

What is the best concert you have been to?

I haven’tbeen to a lot of concerts as I am under 18, but I have performed in some myself, and they were pretty awesome.

What do you like most about performing live?

Honestly, the best part about performing to me, is the live audience…the bursting energy and hype in the crowd when you walk up to the stage. I feel a surge of confidence when I hear the audience and put’s aside any nervousness I may have.

Is there a song on your latest CD release that stands out as your personal favorite & why?

Yes there is. My favorite song on my album is “He Said, She said”. Compared to the others, this was different approach to a style I have never considered trying out before. The process of creating this song took months, much longer than any other one on the album. I recall those moments as being both memorable and frustrating. James, one of my team members and I kept adding and removing ideas. Then one day, something hit me, and we just changed the verse and chorus into what it is now.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I have matured in nearly all of my musical aspects. My vocals improved, they matured. I am a better songwriter. I hope to remain young at heart.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

I would probably want to meet Michael Jackson. I dunno why, I just ‘kinda’ want to. It just seems pretty cool to be able to meet the greatest POP artist of all time.

What’s next for you?

I am continuing to write a lot of songs, and one day, who knows? maybe they’ll be on my second album. I’m also in high school, and things are starting to get busy. I will need to learn a lot about balance. My parents are greatly supportive of me. I have an amazing team surrounding me. Promotion is taking flight right now…stay tuned for more. Thank you for the support everyone.
