‘Stake Land’ Filmmaker Jim Mickle Directing Adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘From a Buick 8’

At different points, late masters of horror George A. Romero and Tobe Hooper had been attached to direct adaptations of Stephen King‘s 2002 novel From a Buick 8, with William Brent Bell (The Boy, The Devil Inside) more recently attached. None of those adaptations ever came to fruition, of course, but Thomas Jane is spear-heading a new attempt.

Announced in December 2019, Jane and producer Courtney Lauren Penn have joined forces to start a company called Renegade Entertainment, and they’ve got their sights set on King’s From a Buick 8. Revealed by Jane on the latest episode of podcast The Kingcast, brought to our attention by Slash Film, Jim Mickle (Stake Land) has signed on to direct!

Mickle also directed We Are What We Are, Cold in July and In the Shadow of the Moon.

From a Buick 8 centers around the rural town of Statler, Pennsylvania where the state police have kept a mysterious 1954 Buick Roadmaster in the shed behind the barracks for over twenty years. When the town is plagued by strange and supernatural events, it turns out the Buick isn’t what it seems to be.

Thomas Jane has become something of a regular in the world of Stephen King, appearing in King adaptations Dreamcatcher, The Mist and most recently, Netflix’s 1922.
