A return to form for realistic First-Person Shooters, Hell Let Loose scratches the itch for players looking for a realistic and tense shooter. Set during the midst of World War II players are allowed to pick a variety of different roles and set forth onto the battlefield. Pitting players against one another in a large-scale 100 person battle. Players will have to work together and move as a unit as they engage in one of the most realistic takes on WWII battles ever created. With humble beginnings as a Kickstarter success, Hell Let Loose has seen a sudden rise in popularity recently. As players are abandoning the more arcade-style of other popular FPS titles available now in favor of a more realistic approach to the genre.
A game with as many classes as Hell Let Loose could be described as being filled to the brim with options. Players can pick from a vast list of playable roles, each of which has their own unique playstyle. Very rarely does a First-Person Shooter title nail both the feeling of real wartime combat but also the need for variety in gameplay. What makes Hell Let Loose so special is that it nails its atmosphere while maintaining variety in encounters and matches. One of the most satisfying and rewarding roles to play as is the Infantry Medic. The main source of support for a squad or an army at large.
Positioning Matters for Hell Let Loose’s Infantry Medic
Given the very important function of the Medic, it is important to firmly understand positioning in Hell Let Loose. Offensive players need to lead the charge while supporting players hang back. And this concept is what separates bad from good Infantry Medic players.
An Infantry Medic needs to stick with his squad or a group of players at all times. This is the single most important lesson in playing an Infantry Medic well. Having an Infantry Medic running around, alone, is a waste of a squadmate, and a waste of a role select. Be sure you’re always with your team, in order to support them whenever possible. It is also the role of a medic to watch for flanks approaching his squad. That way his powerful offensive allies can lead the charge and fight the enemy head-on.
With this concept in mind, a Medic player needs to stick to the back of a group of players, that way he can watch the battlefield closely from a relatively safe position, cover flanks, and keep himself out of combat as often as possible. There is no reason for a Medic player to rush to the front of a squad if not to revive or bandage someone. Staying to the back of a group allows you to watch for downed players and gaining the most mileage out of your support role.
How to Revive as the Hell Let Loose Infantry Medic
The primary job of a Medic is to revive his teammates. That is your main focus as a Medic player and it should take top priority over any task.
When reviving an ally it is important to communicate with them that you are picking them up. That way, if the player is AFK you’re not wasting your time picking up an absent player. This communication is also vital to let them know to put suppressing fire down as they’re revived, as to protect you as a support player. If a situation gets too dangerous to revive a player it is important you let them know, that way they understand the reasoning behind you leaving them.
It is very important that a player is wise when deciding who and where to revive a dead player. If someone was killed in the middle of an open field it probably is not the best idea to go and pick them up, even if you have a smokescreen to cover you. Waiting a few moments to press that dead player’s body, after the enemy team has fallen back is a much wiser decision than running reckless abandoned. It is important you stay smart when reviving players, as you are their only means of support.
It is also important for a medic to bandage players who are wounded or freshly revived. That way the revived player is ready for combat as soon as possible. It is also important to make sure players conserve on their bandages, as they are a limited resource, so utilizing your bandages is essential to ensure that your teammates can save their healing items for when they need them desperately.
One of the most important items used by a Medic player is their Smoke grenade. This allows you to have some visual cover to protect yourself as you are picking up your allies. It can also be used to assist your teammates in transitioning to better cover or rushing a well-defended position. Either way, this item is the most important of your arsenal and needs to be mastered.
Play Aggressively When You Need To in Hell Let Loose
Although it should not be your top priority, the Medic is capable of playing aggressively when he needs to.
The Infantry Medic is armed with either an American M1 Garand or a German Kar98k. The M1 is able to fire off 8 rounds incredibly fast, due to its semi-automatic firing rate. This is your primary way of clearing out tight spaces or dealing with flanking players who have caught you off guard. The Kar however is a much stronger weapon in that it is a one-shot kill on players. Use this weapon to cover flankers from a distance or dealing with the problem in front of your allies.
Offensive play should not be your problem as the Medic, but it is a reality that you sometimes cannot avoid.
Hell Let Loose is available on PC on Steam.
