Texas can’t hold ‘em – great music that is! Though this is his third single released, Amir Beats’ “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” is a twerk-worthy track coming out of Houston. A flashy woman, high costs and fleeting beats in deep in the jersey-meets-leather fabric of this song. Littered with Beats’ voice that juggles a load of his own buoyancy and witty lyrics, “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” excites.

Beats’ previous work “Holla At Me” and “Make You Proud” – are available via Beats’ label, Pype Dreams Entertainment. “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” is an unexpected twist on a woman who feels the need to use her lovers for their credit cards, wallets and so on. She’s got her own house in the south, and the east and the west, Beats breezes through his words. As a wordsmith, I liked Beat’s approach. I thought he really had a nice mix of humor and personality, as well as storytelling skills. You can look but you cannot touch, he raps. I can just picture him moving his index finger as if to say ‘no, no”. He creates such a vivid caricature of this bougie woman that it’s funny and unforgettable. It’s also irritating that men fall for this lifestyle and think that money buys happiness; but women are just as at fault for feeding into that notion and encouraging such practices.
We live in a society with so much pressure to look good, wear certain clothes and drive a particular car – can’t we just let loose and have fun for a change? I think Amir gets that, too. It gets even better when he urges whomever she’s dating to stack your change, stack your change. Happening musically while he’s doing this is an electronic mix of sly beats, computerized slashes and even some zooms. He’s quick to match the energy and the direction of the music bed – his flow style sometimes have a ripple effect to what’s happening underneath the vocal action. The song’s end is completed by one final call to action: twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk…

Beats really puts his cards out on the table with this song. I think he’s betting on the storyline – which definitely holds the listener’s attention. I also think he’s spent a great deal of time in the studio coming up with the music choice. The surge in rhythms and sweeping tones, give this song an edge. He hustles his way with each word and the listener isn’t exhausted or caught off guard; rather, the listener is right there next to him, picking up the dance slack. I don’t think his talent is a bluff – I think an artist like Beats has been working at his craft for very long time, and while he does have some luck on his side, you can tell he’s put in the elbow grease. The combination of his loose lyrics and his dominating beats, this Texan draws from a wide range of personal, artistic talents. Any which way you slice it, “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” is a winner.
