‘Emily in Paris’ is the Netflix series by the man behind Sex and the City that you’ll be addicted to

If Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias was the feel-good romanic comedy-drama of the summer, then prepare for Emily in Paris to fill that void in the fall. On Monday, July 13, the streaming service announced that it had acquired the series—which stars Lily Collins and was created by Sex and the City and Younger genius Darren Star—from MTV Studios. It will premiere later in 2020. Collins’s casting was first announced in April 2019, when the series was originally set to air on the Paramount Network.

In Emily in Paris, Collins stars as the titular character, an “ambitious 20-something marketing executive from Chicago.” She unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company. As one does, Emily heads to the City of Light to shop and eat revamp the company’s media strategy. Per Netflix, “Emily’s new life in Paris is filled with intoxicating adventures and surprising challenges as she juggles winning over her work colleagues, making friends, and navigating new romances.”

Emily will face each adventure in some very chic ensembles since costume designer—and SATC legend—Patricia Field was tasked with styling the series. A deep dive into Lily Collins’s Twitter feed shows off lots of bold prints and unexpected designer pairings. (Honestly, we expect nothing less.)

Netflix has yet to release the trailer, so until they do, we’ve rounded up the most important details about the new series. Based on the below, the premiere can’t come fast enough.

The cast: Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply, To the Bone, Tolkien, The Last Tycoon) stars as Emily. Ashley Park (Mean Girls on Broadway) stars as Emily’s friend Mindy Chen. Other series regulars include Philippine Leroy Beaulieu (Call My Agent!), Lucas Bravo (Smart Ass), Samuel Arnold (Antony & Cleopatra), Camille Razat (The 15:17 to Paris), and Bruno Gouery (Doc Martin). Fan favorite—and Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice alum—Kate Walsh will have a recurring role, along with William Abadie (Resident Evil: Extinction) and Arnaud Viard (Clara et Moi).

The producing team: Darren Star (Younger, Sex and the City) created the series and also serves as writer and executive producer. Collins is also a producer. Says Star, “MTV Studios and I couldn’t hope for a more perfect home for Emily in Paris than Netflix. With their international reach, we are excited to share Emily with audiences around the world.”

Episode count: There will be 10 episodes at 30 minutes each.

Location: The series was filmed entirely on location in Paris and throughout France. Je suis tellement excité!

Collins also shared this behind-the-scenes photo while filming in the famed Palais Garnier in Paris.

Emily in Paris will premiere on Netflix this fall.
