Lockdown has totally transformed our grooming regimes. As well as trying to make grown-out roots a thing (the countdown to July 4 is on), celebrity brow experts say the pandemic has given birth to a plethora of surprising new eyebrow trends. Without being able to get to our usual waxing, threading, tinting and microblading appointments – and being too nervous to attempt at-home brow shaping – plenty of us are embracing the brows we were blessed with…. and apparently we’re on trend.
According to Owner and CEO of Rubis, Fides Baldesberger, ‘the baby brow’ is the lockdown brow trend you didn’t even realise you were rocking.
Achieving baby brows, as favoured by Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, involves plucking a few rogue hairs and using a brush to ensure the hairs are standing at full length before fixing them with a soap or gel. It’s low-maintenance, high reward beauty.
“The baby brow allows your au natural brows to shine,” explains Fides, “the brow is gently brushed then left to their own devices.”
Although the baby brow may look pretty effortless, Fides says you still need to create a solid structure and shape to your arch to define the brows and tame the brows.
“Your holy grail for perfect brows will be a good pair of tweezers and a solid brow arch”, says Fides. “Invest in a pair of fine-tipped, slanted edge tweezers so you can precisely pluck even the smallest hairs. You want a pair of tweezers that are sharp to grab onto each individual hair and won’t slide off mid-pluck.”
Here’s how to create the perfect arch for your brow:
- Take your tweezers and hold them straight up in line with the tear duct, this is where your brow should begin.
- Then hold the tweezers in line with the peak of the eye’s iris and make sure this is where the highest point of your arch is.
- Finally, taking the tweezers at a 45-degree angle towards the outer corner of the eye, you will be able to guide the end of your arch.
- To add slight definition to the brows, pluck the hairs that grow outside the shape of your natural arch
“Once you have the shape of your arch, creating the on-trend brow is simple,” assures Fides. “Take a spoolie and brush the hair outwards in the direction the hairs grow. You will need to take a bar of soap or a brow gel to fixate the hairs into in place.”
Voila.
