Not content with tickling our retro glands with FAITH: The Unholy Trinity (which is still in development), indie dev Airdorf (in collaboration with Torple Dook) has been busy with another game that takes a rather unorthodox yet totally believable premise and makes it into something horrific: Fishing.
Earl’s Day Off is a retro-inspired 3D fishing horror game that’s inspired by arcade bass fishing games from the 90s. It was actually created during the Fish Horror Jam 2020 game jam, and while buggy, the demo has that PS1 aesthetic that a lot of indie devs doing these throwback games have honed to perfection.
The story is brief: You are Earl, and after a rough night on the lake, you discover that you lost your wedding ring in the lake. You wife tells you not to come back until you get it, and after you surmise that it’s “probably in some fish’s gut by now”, you decide to spend your day off fishing for it.
You can check out the demo via the game’s itch.io page. Airdorf states that “MUCH MORE [is] to come” for this one, so be patient.
