Remember when Gwyneth Paltrow‘s lifestyle brand Goop sold a candle that smelt like her vagina? Aptly named ‘This Smells Like My Vagina’ – which actually smelt of geranium, citrusy bergamot and cedar – the $75 candle sold out within minutes of its launch back in February.
Now Gwyneth has announced the name of her next candle, and it apparently smells like her orgasm. No, we’re not joking.
Speaking remotely on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night, the infamous vagina candle of course came up in conversation, with Gwyneth advising that it’s back in stock, should Jimmy want to buy it.
“That’s the name of the candle, and it sold out like crazy. I think it’s hilarious,” said Jimmy.
“I was like, ‘Wouldn’t that be cool if somebody actually had the guts to do that?'” Gwyneth said. “What a punk-rock, feminist statement, to have that on your table… and we have a new one, which actually might be more for you to give to your wife.” Opening a box embossed with fireworks, she then showed the candle to the camera with the label ‘This Smells Like My Orgasm’. Naturally.
‘But what does an orgasm even smell like?’ we hear you cry. Well, according to Goop’s website, the product description reads: ‘A fitting follow-up to that candle – you know the one – this blend is made with tart grapefruit, neroli, and ripe cassis berries blended with gunpowder tea and Turkish rose absolutes’, which makes for ‘a that’s sexy, surprising, and wildly addictive.’
The orgasm candle isn’t yet available to ship to the UK on Goop’s site, but luckily for us, the vagina candle is.
The brand is no stranger to controversial products and is often criticised by health professionals for making unsubstantiated scientific claims. In 2018, Goop paid more than £100,000 in civil penalties over products including yoni eggs made from jade, intended to placed into the vagina for pelvic-floor strengthening.
