Kojima States ‘Death Stranding’ Was a Financial Success

In a new interview with Livedoor News, Hideo Kojima states that not only has Death Stranding on the PlayStation 4 been profitable and recouped its development costs, the project’s revenue has allowed the developer to secure enough profit for its next title. This comes as PC fans wait for the game to be released to Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 14th.

“We surpassed the amount we needed to make a profit, so I think it sold well enough to be called a ‘success,’ recoupment of development costs included,” said Kojima when asked about Death Stranding‘s profitability. “We’ll release the PC version soon and have already secured enough profit to prepare for what’s next, so there’s no need to worry.” Of course, the next question was about “what’s next” for Kojima, to which he responded “it’s still in the planning stages, but we’re doing various work behind the scenes.”

Interestingly, Kojima alludes to “a big project” that recently fell apart. Of course, readers expecting that he’s alluding to the rumours regarding Sony’s attempt to revive the Silent Hills project with Konami, you’ll be disappointed. Kojima responds to the question of said rumours as being “completely false”, and that he hadn’t heard anything about it.

In the meantime, we’re still waiting on the still-unannounced DLC for Death Stranding, which Norman Reedus himself alluded to months back.
