Laika Studios Brings TikTok Fight Challenge To The World of Animation

While perhaps unnecessarily belligerent, one of the better trends from the coronavirus lockdown is the stunt-driven fight challenge videos shared over social media.

It began in mid-April with dozens of professional stunt people pretending to beat each other up through clever video edits, then continued in early May when Zoë Bell said she wished she could “play with her friends” before (literally) kicking it over to Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz, Juliette Lewis, Drew Barrymore, Rosie Perez, Zoe Saldana and many others.

Good things come in threes, however, and the folks at Laika, the Travis Knight-led Oregon-based company behind Coraline, The Boxtrolls, and Missing Link, realized that the only way to compete with the seemingly superhuman stunt work would be to use animation.

Their TikTok, which begins with a ball bounced off the head of a deep-in-concentration animator, includes cameos from some of the company’s previous properties, as well as weird stuff like a giant blue hammer and an angry ice cube.

The video is only a minute, but chances are you’ll want to watch it a few times in a row.
