Interview with “Nice Ghost”

Welcome Nice Ghost! Thank you for your time We would love to learn more about you – Describe yourself in 5 words or less

Unapologetically genre-bending artist-weirdo.

Tell us what is in store for you with the rest of 2020?

On August 28th, a full-length album called “Digital” hit all the markets, along with other merchandise goodies, and at least several online performances. If I can get out on the road before 2020 ends, I’ll do it – but I’m not going to hold my breath. I know the touring industry might not be back in capacity until well into 2021, so we’ll see what happens. Regardless, I’m releasing the album and am working on the next album.

Do you ever get nervous before you play music live?

I actually get nervous when I do my own songs more than anything else. I’ve played in so many other peoples’ bands and cover bands, as frontman, sideman, whatever… to the point where I don’t even bat an eye at the idea of going out in front of big crowds, but when you strip it down and suddenly they’re MY songs, exposing ME? I do get nervous, there. Online shows, especially. You’d think performing from home would be so relaxed, but I’m always pacing back and forth, worrying about connectivity glitches and whatnot.

What is your next goal as a musician?

To finish the next album. I want to have a stockpile of “finished” material just in case something catches fire and suddenly I need to release more songs as part of a label contract or something. I think it’s important to have a lot to bring to the table, more than just a couple singles.

What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?

It depends on the mood, honestly. One day I might be screaming out Beck, “Loser.” The next day, singing along with Pavarotti on “Nessun Dorma.” I do also really enjoy singing along with classical music. I’ve been really into Mendlessohn’s Elijah ever since performing it with the choir back in grad school.

Name one your strengths?

I’m always envisioning the potential in things. If I write one song, I can start visioning the end product with a full-length, artwork, etc… I get these big-picture ideas and I am really tenacious about pursuing them.

What is your own definition of happiness?

The perfect balance of social time and alone time. Preferably on tour. I love the road, and I’m my best self when I’m on the road.

How do you see yourself in 5 years?

Touring, releasing albums, continuing to avoid permanent roots in any one geographic location.

How would you describe your fashion style?

FitPunk? Everyone just calls me a hipster, so there’s that.
