Actor Lakeith Stanfield, best known for his roles in Get Out, Sorry to Bother You, and Donald Glover’s FX series Atlanta, is back with a new song as HTIEKAL. “Birds” features Git, and arrives with an accompanying music video. Check out the visual for “Birds,” seemingly filmed on Stanfield’s smartphone as he stands in a field smoking a cigarette, below.
According to a press release, Stanfield was inspired to write the hook for “Birds” when he returned home from the Sundance Film Festival and was awoken by the harmonious sounds of birds outside of his window.
In March, Stanfield released “Fast Life” under the alias HTIEKAL (“Lakeith” backwards). Stanfield premiered that track in an interview with GQ’s Max Cea, during which it was revealed that the actor has an upcoming album on the way titled Self Control. Stanfield told GQ that the LP is “about struggling and striving and getting through the harder times—and coming out on the other side with some hope.”
Stanfield recently took a jog through his Los Angeles neighborhood to raise awareness for Ahmaud Arbery.
