She regularly experiments with new hair shades via wigs, but this weekend it seems Kylie Jenner committed to a new look and dyed her *actual* hair… or, at least, a small section of it.

Jumping on board with a trend some of the most fashionable Brits have been rocking for a while, Kylie’s new look consisted of a bleached front portion either side of her face, creating a bright and beautiful frame without risking her full head of hair. A wise choice when all salons are closed and you’re left to your own devices…

We caught up with Harriet Muldoon – bleach hair expert and superstar colourist at Larry King‘s salon in Kensington – to talk us through the trend she’s been working on and perfecting for several years, and – crucially – to provide us with those much-needed tips should you be tempted to try it at home.

“Each season we find ourselves searching for the latest trends, but sometimes some things stick around and Rogue Blonde is definitely one of them.”

“The Rogue was created by Amy fish and I last year, and what started as a fleeting trend led to a permanent in-house service.”

“I have a nostalgic feeling towards the 90s, teenage dreams of being bold and making a statement is where we started but we have adapted this technique to chunky highlights on the hairline for a softer approach. In today’s world people like to make a statement and with this colour it’s the perfect opportunity.”

“The name itself came from Rogue the super hero, whose iconic look has bold white panels in her hair and perfectly aligns with our image of power and boldness.”

“The rogue blonde is a trend that we have been doing in the salon for some time, but at this time we’re all have to take matters into our own hands.”

“Bleaching is something that I have always advised not doing yourselves, but I understand that as the week go by the temptation grows. This is where I would recommend the rogue.”

“The rogue is a face framing look so will be easier to apply as you’re only focusing on the front section.”

How to create Rogue Blonde strips at home

  1. Using a comb, create the rogue by taking a 1cm-wide section of hair into the hair line from the front to the ear on either side.
  2. Tie back the rest of the hair into a pony tail so it’s out of the way and use Vaseline as a barrier to the rest of the hair.
  3. The bleach I’d recommend using is Redken Flashlift with PH Bonder with 20 vol. developer. If your hair is level 8 (medium blonde) or lighter I would use 10 and 20 vol to make the peroxide weaker as you won’t need as much lift.
  4. Depending on how big your roots are you may need to lift the mid section and ends. If so, I suggest using foil to insulate to ensure you get the right level of lift.
  5. Keep checking the hair until it has lifted to a pale yellow (should take no longer than an hour max.) and then you’re ready to tone. I use Redken shades eq 9v and 9nb.
  6. To keep your rogue toned I would use Redken Blondage shampoo.
