Blink Brow Bar, I miss you.
My already unruly eyebrows are wilder than my post-lockdown social life looks set to be. Whilst GLAMOUR’s Beauty Editor has been convincing us to try to thread our own brows and other friends have mastered the art of shaping their brows at home, I’m quite frankly having a mare.
I managed to avoid the awkward over-plucked brow era of my teens thanks to my mother scaring me sh**less about tweezers so I really don’t want my efforts to go to waste now.
Thankfully, brow experts are hailing grown-out, wild brows as actually rather trendy. They’re even dubbing them ‘plume brows’, which sounds quite sophisticated IMO.
According to Bobbi Brown pro artist, Zara Findlay, plume brows are low-maintenance, gloriously grown-out brows – and they suit everyone.
“Across social media we are seeing people really embracing their natural brows, letting them grow and feather out, perhaps more so than they would normally,” she told GLAMOUR. “This is a trend we’re calling ‘plume brows’ and is something that is adaptable for everyone and can be maintained and scaled down for those aren’t huge fans of big, fuller brows.”
Zara maintains that the trend is ideal for isolation because it’s super low-maintenance but you can use products and tools to groom and glam up your look for those all important Zoom calls or for virtual date nights (yes, they’re a thing now).
“Now is the time to let your brows grow out and form their natural shapes and paths,” advises Zara. “If you are looking to encourage growth and embrace this trend, make sure you massage your brows. I find this super easy when I’m using a facial wash or cleansing oil, really work the brows in an upward motion and massage them like you would anywhere else across your face to remove excess makeup or residue.
“However, if you are wanting to remove any hairs, the best tip would be to fill in your brows as normal with the product you would normally use, and then remove any stray hairs around the shape to clean and streamline the look. To maintain this growth, use the Bobbi Brown Brow Shaper to brush up the hairs and keep the overgrown hairs in place and if confident, remove any unwanted stray hairs with tweezers, or try the Brow Shaper or a spooly brush to brush the hair upwards, and use tiny scissors to trim the top edges. This will keep them looking in shape.”
I’m so glad I can hail my slug brows as the far more superior ‘plume brows’ from now on.
