New WATCHMEN Comic Series Confirmed By Tom King? | Screen Rant

The secrecy of writer Tom King’s next DC assignment may finally be over, now that he seems to have all but confirmed a new Watchmen series is coming. And even if fans don’t know when the story will arrive, they know who he has partnered with to make it a reality.

This may not be the first some readers will have heard about a new Watchmen series, after details about the new project first emerged back in November, when King cryptically shared a photo of Watchmen comics as “research for a thing.” Some speculated it might not be exactly as it seemed, with Doomsday Clock merging the Watchmen universe with that of King’s Batman, Mister Miracle, and Adam Strange. But fans were uniformly mystified when King shared an image of Watchmen‘s Rorschach with an unknown woman to social media, before quickly deleting it. Thankfully, King has finally shown a true preview of his new story… tied to the original Watchmen series in intriguing fashion.

The latest reveal, like those previous, comes courtesy of King directly. And while the image itself will require some detective work, the description given of the series in question is sure to surprise fans. Apparently King has not only been working on ”an insanely ambitious maxi series that hasn’t even been announced yet,” but revealed via Twitter that he has all but finished writing the entire thing. Take a look:

As pointed out by CBR, the art featured in the tweet appears to be the work of Jorge Fornés, who has teamed up with King in the past for his work on DC’s main Batman series. The picture appears nondescript at first, following a man and woman (separately?) taking an elevator to a room labelled 15A. But when one eagle-eyed fan noticed that the painting in the building’s entryway is a recreation of the same painting hanging in Ozymandias’ arctic base — as seen in Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original Watchmen — King responded simply, but likely unconvincing, claiming to have “no idea what you’re talking about.”

The new series would not be King’s first time delving into the Watchmen universe. He has previously used parts of the universe for his Batman/The Flash crossover “The Button,” where the crossover had Doctor Manhattan killing the Reverse Flash Eobard Thawne. It’s also not the first time DC has revisited the Watchmen universe, having already released the prequel Before Watchmen and the more recent Doomsday Clock sequel. There are still no confirmed details concerning just what this project will involve, beyond King and Fornés’ involvement. At least now Watchmen fans know just what they have to look forward to, as the story itself remains a mystery… for now.
