Selena Gomez’s Acoustic ‘Rare’ Performance Will Give You Chills

What’s “Rare” like stripped down to just the vocals and a guitar? Allow Selena Gomez to show you. The singer shared a video of herself and two friends performing an acoustic rendition of the track. Come for the emotional lyrics, delivered sincerely by Gomez and Madison Love, one of the track’s songwriters, stay for the opportunity to hear Gomez’s gorgeous natural singing voice.

Gomez teased the performance video on her Instagram: “Some friends and I got together to do a little live performance of Rare, hope you enjoy it as much as we did 💖” The video has been up for less than 24 hours and has already gotten more than 1 million views.

“Rare,” the title track off Gomez’s new album, is meaningful to Gomez. It’s also the name she chose for her upcoming beauty brand, Rare Beauty. During an iHeartRadio listening party for the album in January, Gomez said “Rare” is “the song that I wish I could actually say personally to every single person.”

“I think there’s so much going on… It’s just so much pressure,” she continued, according to Entertainment Tonight. “Everybody thinks that they have to look exactly the same and they have to do these things and the truth is, you don’t. And I felt that way too… It gets in your head and this song is the opposite of that… It’s a song that says, ‘I know that I don’t have it all, but I do know that I deserve something special.’ That song is exactly how I feel. I won’t tolerate being treated any other way.”
