By Terry is known for its luxurious range of beauty products, all of which have been created by Terry de Gunzburg, a trail-blazing industry legend who used to be the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent (she launched the Touché Eclat). Favourites include the beloved Baume De Rose, an indulgent lip balm infused with rose flower essential wax, shea butter, antioxidant vitamin E and strengthening ceramides for unparrallelled plumping and pillow soft lips, as well as the Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder, which sets makeup while blurring imperfections and hydrating the skin.

Another cult product is Ombre Blackstar – a long-wearing cream eyeshadow that comes in stick form for effortless application. Here, 5 GLAMOUR editors put it to the test…

The Reviews

For the first By Terry product I’ve tried, I was extremely impressed. I chose the shade Ombre Mercure, a shimmery cream shade – the colour payoff was lovely and not too intense, which suited me nicely as I usually stay away from drastic eyeshadows. I also love easy use products and this was super simple to blend in with just my fingers. Perfect for day or night use, this is definitely something I will regularly reach for, especially when I’m quite pressed for time!

I love By Terry products, but if I had to pick just one of the brand’s products that was deserving of star status, it would be the Ombre Black Star eyeshadows. I’m not the only one. They’ve become something of an icon among the online beauty community and have spawned hundreds of copycats thanks to the silky, pigments and the satisfying way they glide across lids. Buff them in with your finger for a barely-there whisper of colour, or build them up to a more statement finish. Either way, they’re beautiful. My favourite, though, is Blonde Opal a delicate champagne that makes eyes sparkle.

One of my all time favourite products is Baume de Rose and I hold By Terry in high esteem – and to high standards – but Ombre Blackstar had no problem meeting them. It’s easy to apply and effortless to blend, while also proving long-lasting and crease-proof, which is no mean feat. Plus, the subtle yet smoldering range of shades provides an option to suit every occasion. My shade – Bronze Moon – offered a great daytime look in just one sweep.

I loved the formulation of this eye shadow stick – it’s so creamy and easy to blend. It wasn’t quite my colour (I tried the shade Black Pearl) – I usually go for warmer shades on my eyes – but in something a little more coppery, I’d definitely snap one up! It was so easy to apply, too.

I’m a massive fan of By Terry – their formulas always feel so amazing. This product was good and had a great texture and colour. However, I’m just not a black eyeshadow girl (I tried the shade Matte Black) – it threw me back to my years as an emo teenager, a time I would like to forget when it comes to beauty. I first applied it like an eyeshadow but was far too heavy, so I then tried it as a more wearable smudged eyeliner look.
