5 Women Test: Fenty’s first-ever mascara… and here’s what we thought

From the moment Fenty Beauty launched in 2017, we’ve been consistently impressed by the pigment-packed, results-driven range of inclusive makeup products. From the original Match Stix that were as alluring for the vast array of shades as they were for the magnetic packaging, to highlighters that actually work on every skin tone, to the 50 shades of foundation that cater to all textures and undertones.

However, there has always been one crucial product missing from the collection. Despite having a range of lip and complexion makeup, Fenty Beauty didn’t offer fans a mascara. Until now, that is.

Fenty Beauty has just launched their first-ever mascara, Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara, which claims to instantly volumizes, lifts, lengthens, and curls thanks to an innovative flat-to-fat brush, which coats lashes with a buildable, jet black, long-wear formula.

Here, 5 GLAMOUR editors put Fenty Beauty’s latest offering to the test…

The Reviews

Lottie Winter, Beauty Editor

I love the soft bristle brush, which delivers the formula seamlessly onto lashes, with no clumping whatsoever (no matter how many coats you apply). Plus, it really did wear well, with no smudging or flaking throughout the day. My only critique would be that I usually opt for mascaras that deliver a more extreme lash look in terms of volume and thickness.

Anita Bhagwandas, Contributing Beauty Director

If you’re looking for natural, defined and easy-to-use mascara this is the one. It’s not super dramatic – though you can build up the coats – but it’s the perfect chilled, everyday mascara that dried quickly, doesn’t flake or give you crunchy lashes. It’s your new everyday mascara!

Sophie Cockett, Commerce Writer

Judging by the beautiful packaging, I was expecting slightly better things from this mascara than what it actually delivered. I did love the wand – it did a great job at separating my lashes – but it didn’t offer the volume I was after. Maybe it’s down to personal preference, but I’d probably only use this product again if I was popping to the shops or on a chilled Saturday. I like my lashes to have a little more drama.

I love that this has a bristle brush and the flat, fat shape helps to load on product and curl. It gives good length and built up over several coats creates loads of volume.

Jen Garside, Engagement Executive

When it comes to mascara, normally I swear by Diorshow and am terrified that other mascaras won’t give my baby blonde eyelashes enough of a spider-y effect, but this was a pleasant surprise. It provides just enough volume for a made-up day-time look whilst also giving great curl.
