It’s no small honour, being asked to perform at the Super Bowl. The final game of the American football season, routinely draws in the highest TV ratings in American sport and this year saw Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers play it out for the top spot.
Following in the footsteps of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Prince and Madonna, this year Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, took to the stage at Miami’s Hard Rock stadium to entertain fans during the half-time interval.
Unsurprisingly, JLo looked spectacular as the spotlight focused on her. Even better, her glam squad shared the exact products used to create her glowy skin, smoky eye, swooshy hair and blingy nails.
It seems preparation started days in advance, as Jennifer flew trusted facialist, Toska Husted out to Miami a week early to perform her signature Triple Lift Luxury Facial. The treatment included a deep cleanse and exfoliation, using products from luxe skincare brand Biologique Recherche. This was followed-up with a special technique of manual lifting using a mixture of acids, botanical extracts and silk proteins and application of customised serums and masks. Finally, microcurrent machines were used to lift, sculpt and tone the skin. “Jennifer is naturally beautiful and very sweet, her positive energy is infectious,” Toska said. “She works so incredibly hard so she deserved a little extra pampering.”
As for makeup, her MUA, Scott Barnes shared two of the major products he used to pull her look together, noting, “I’m rocking this Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronzer Perfect Tan and the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner on JLo.” He went on to explain that the “super-sized bronzer” is “perfect for both face and all-over body bronzing,” while the waterproof eyeliner has a “versatile, glide-on gel formula,” that “makes it easy to create sharp lines or smudge it out”.
Meanwhile, her longtime hair stylist, Chris Appleton shared behind the scenes shots of the tools and products he called on to add diva-level oomf to JLo’s hair. Dyson tools were used to create a gravity-defying blow dry, ColorWOW’s DreamCoat gave her hair an extra glossy finished and Chris used TangleTeezer’s brushes to tease her hair into place and brush out curls.
Last, Jennifer’s manicurist, Tom Bachik revealed the inspiration behind her mani. “They are inspired by her finale look,” he said. “Her nails are a medium length tapered square, done in clear with silver leafing running down the centres. I love mixed media and dimension and JLo loves sparkle so I teamed up with Swarovski to make that happen at the highest level. I love making nails like jewellery. To do this, Swarovski stones in various shapes were applied sporadically over the top like fractured glass. We finished with white striping in between the crystals to set it off,” he explained.
But the prep didn’t stop once JLo took to the stage. For the after party, Bachik helped create Versace nails to match her outfit.
A show-stopping look for a show-stopping performance. We salute you, Jenny From The Block.
