This Alexander McQueen campaign is a lesson in how to wear four of next season’s biggest trends

One of the world’s most beautiful luxury fashion labels, British brand Alexander McQueen is a master of its own craft.

Headed up by design genius Sarah Burton, its biannual runways are a seasonal highlight on every Fashion Editor’s calendar while McQueen’s red carpet gowns are lapped up globally throughout awards season – never more so than when the Duchess of Cambridge, a huge fan of the brand, opts for one herself.

But it’s the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 campaign that’s hitting the headlines this week.

One of the most romantic of the season, it features models Imaan Hammam, Vivien Solari and Felice Noordhoff photographed by British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth at a worn, beach-front space full of natural light and beautiful backdrops.

And while each image it striking in itself, there are four major trends for next season that we can’t help but notice being championed.

Here’s how to wear them according to Alexander McQueen…

1. INTRICATE EMBROIDERY

Embroidery comes in many guises, but floral details and intricate, detailed needlework is how Sarah Burton is using it for spring/summer. Don’t be afraid of a fully-embroidered look – ’tis the season to go for it.

2. THE GIANT PUFF

Puffed sleeves are only getting bigger, which is great news for those of us fond of a bulky silhouette. Make like McQueen and keep the rest of your look monochrome if you’re opting for serious puff.

3. DEEP WAISTS

The waist belt returned to our radar last season, with slim incarnations wrapped around just about every blazer we saw. Next season, though, the belt gets a whole lot deeper and works perfectly atop a full, feminine dress.

4. SHEER PANELS

Sheer layers and panels are having a huge moment right now, so it’s only natural that it continues through to summer. Head for panels dotted throughout a textured bodice, or an embroidered sheer skirt for full impact.
