Despite the Serious Trailer, Finn Wolfhard Assures ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Is “a Really Funny Film”

As much as everyone debates whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie (it is), they also can’t agree on the genre of the original Ghostbusters, which is clearly a horror-comedy. It’s such a fun (and funny) movie that the trailer for this summer’s Jason Reitman-directed Ghostbusters: Afterlifleft fans confused. Being that it’s an official sequel to the first two films, and shows two children blasting proton packs and driving an Ecto-1 through a cornfield,  why does it look so serious?

Tonally, the trailer seems to be at odds with the original movies, but there are still plenty of months for Columbia Pictures to right the ship. Until then, star Finn Wolfhard promises that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a super funny movie.

“The trailer only showed some of it, but it’s a Ghostbusters movie so it’s a really funny film,” he told THR. “Every scene has comedy in it. I’m excited for people to see more of the humor in the movie.”

Even better news for Wolfhard fans who have been disappointed with his heel turn in recent years (he was a bit of a jerk in “Stranger Things 3” and a creepy villain in The Turning), the young actor gets back to his charming teenage roots in Afterlife.

When asked about his character, Trevor, having a lot of dry humor in the movie, Wolfhard explained:

“Yeah, he’s a pretty dumb character. (Laughs.) It’s not that he’s written dumb, he’s just a dumb teenager and totally naive. Everything is way over his head. He’s obsessed with cars and girls. So it’s really fun to play him.”

In the film, a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town and begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Strap on your proton packs for July 10, 2020.
