The New York Times Splits Their Endorsement, Pleasing No One and Inspiring Twitter Bonanza

Proving that absolutely nothing about the 2020 election can be normal, The New York Times has announced their endorsed candidate. Candidates, actually.

In a move designed in a laboratory to please absolutely no one, they hedged their bets between, in their words, “realist” and “radical.” and selected both Senator Amy Klobuchar and Senator Elizabeth Warren. Somewhere in the process they forgot Danny Rose’s Aunt Rose’s words of wisdom: “you can’t ride two horses with one behind.”

The endorsements come as a capper to a full overhaul of the Times’ opinion section, which included a taped, borderline-reality TV aspect to the selection. (You can read our deep dive into that here.) While it is understandable that “the paper of record” may want to shake things up a bit and modernize, the peculiarities inherent in their decision came with no shortage of criticism.

To that end, those of us putzing around on our phones at midnight on before a national holiday had drew no shortage of chuckles while looking at Twitter. (Disclosure: I was in a taxi and fired off at least ten of my own, some better than others.) Here are some of the more amusing ones that aren’t dirty.

For what it’s worth, Senators Warren and Klobuchar were gracious about their half-wins.
