Dasha Zhukova, the Russian-born, New York-based businesswoman, art collector, fashion mogul and magazine editor, surprised the press by marrying Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos a day early.
The sneak-attack nuptials were held on Friday at a specially erected marquee near the Olympaschanze ski jump in St. Moritz. It is unknown if Nicharos attempted to break a glass on snow.
This is the first marriage for Niarchos, son of Philip Niarchos, who is four years Zhukova’s junior. He has previously dated Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate Olsen and Jessica Hart. His grandfather Stavros was considered a great rival to Aristotle Onassis in the shipping industry, and his aunt is part of the Ford family. Zhukova’s previous husband (and the father of her two children) is Roman Abramovich, the billionaire head of Millhouse Capital, owner of the British Premiere League’s Chelsea F.C. as well as the third-largest superyacht on the seven seas.
The wedding festivities are set to last all week, and the secretive early action means that some globe-trotting A-listers are still strapping on their ski boots to catch up with those already Instagramming from the scene. The Daily Mail reports that Karlie Kloss, Stella McCartney, Princess Beatrice, Gayle King, and Derek Blasberg all arrived to the make the big event’s kickoff in time. Kate Hudson, Orlando Bloom, Lauren Santo Domingo, Jennifer Meyer, and designers Sara and Erin Foster were also in attendance. Rumor has it Kloss’s sister-in-law, Ivanka Trump, may put in an appearance as well.
The couple is staying at the Kulm Hotel, which is owned by the groom’s family. Though upwards of 300 guests will make the party, the pair already technically got married at an intimate ceremony in Paris last October.
